-         Restoration and rehabilitation of degraded forest land by natural regeneration and enrichment planting;

-         Silvicultural treatment of natural regeneration and secondary forest stands;

-         Market analysis and development of non-timber forest products (NTFP)

-         Planning and carrying out of training, seminars and workshops in community forest management;

-         Development of bio-physical and socio-economic criteria for participatory land use planning and land allocation;

-         Assisting in the development and testing of a methodology for village development planning.

-         Main fields of work in TFEM Xishuangbanna:

-         Developing and testing a methodology for particpatory land use planning;

-         Transfer and adaptation of the methodology for participatory land use planning to the Hainan Rehabilitation and Protection of Tropical Forest Project (11/1999);

-         Support the establishment of co-management arrangements for Manggao Nature Reserve between adjacent villages and government institutions;

-         Survey on main forest types and its main tree and associated plant species. Description of botany, ecology, distribution, and uses;
